Me explaining to Talha how dastardly the acts that have recently stunned Lahore are and that there will be no cricket in Pakistan from now on. He has in his 7 year old life gone to the Gaddafi Stadium numerous times and feels very excited whenever its floodlights shine and there is a possibility of a day out in the stadium.
He asks me 'Kabhi naheen hon gae match?'
I say 'Seems like it, thanks to those bast***. Unfortunately the world can be a terrible place'.
Talha looks perplexed and frustrated and says: 'Tau hum kisi aur dunya mayn shift ho jaatay hayn.'

When both of you do decide to leave, do take me with you!
Leena.
I wouldn't bet on that!
The glorious uncertainties of the game, as they say...
:)
There is no future of the sports in Pakistan, no doubt about that...
Anyways I'm not a cricket fan (Soccer all the way) But even then this attack was mournful. Plz visit my blog too www.usamalali.blogspot.com I'm a 13 year old male and do comment.
Oh there WILL be sports. In the long term future the stadia will witness gladiatorial events and then dissenters thrown to wild dogs. after all, if we start on a backward trek there's no telling where we will stop.
but, no. i am optimistic. all these fundos will blow themselves up by wiring a nuclear device wrongly.
Very right indeed Zakintosh...
cricket will return to this land...albeit that it'll take some doing.
Pray for a regime change, for the better...

A pacifist I have known for a long time recently shocked me when she said, "The only solution to our problems is to put all current politicians into one place and blow them up. Then we can start fresh." Is that the state of despondency?
If we dont learn from history, history will repeat itself. At this moment there are three things that flashes across my mind. First is the severe "blowback" effect on supporting militant organizations who try to achieve their means through guerilla warfare and who are not allergic to innocent civilian blood. History is replete with such incidents whether it is the support for AlQaeda or the Afghan war against Soviet, India's support for LTTE and Israel's initial support for Hamas. Trying to domesticate a tiger is not a very intelligent move. Secondly, it is becoming more and more clear that the existing court and criminal procedures to handle terrorist element is largely inadequate. To put it bluntly, the terrorist simply do not deserve the same kind of criminal procedures. There has to be strict ruthless laws which should be put in place to tackle these cowards. Yes there will be side effects, there is a real possibility of innocent civilians getting caught up in it. But sometimes amputating an organ is better than allowing the cancer to spread all over the body. Showing tolerance towards intolerant elements is also a form of terrorism. Finally we cannot be too obsessed with root cause of terrorism. Yes solving the root cause is important but we just cannot be too obsessed with it and dont act on the present. I dont think the terrorists will change their way (atleast to a certain degree) even if Afghan problem or the Kashmir dispute or the Palestinian dispute is resolved. Tigers never turn vegetarian.
A collection of your favourite Talha-isms needs to be blogged. Including the pre-colour world and stuff.
Cool Geek :"[..] There has to be strict ruthless laws which should be put in place to tackle these cowards. Yes there will be side effects, there is a real possibility of innocent civilians getting caught up in it. But [..]"
Well, I sincerely hope you're the very first one of these civilian innocents who gets caught (and hopefully tortured). This would be useful in two ways: 1) It would be the most clear demonstration of the veracity of your statements (i.e., that innocent civilians get caught ..) and 2) Once more and more innocent civilians like you are needlessly ***ked, the rest of us can go back to making a case for civil liberties.

..and dumb ideas need a lot of words.
looks like we need a second freedom movement. this looks more threatening than the british raj...
@Cool geek.... FYI... The BJP govt in India tried something similar with POTA act.... that didnt stop any serial bombings... all it did was put innocent civilians behind bar... i think v can take some cue from how punjab problems and more recently how Kashmir violence is controlled in india from the dreadful 90s ...
